Our Family

From our fields to your home

Seco Spice Co. was established in 1996 by owners Ed and Julie Ogaz. Each was born and raised in the Hatch Valley and come from farming families. Having attended Hatch Valley High School, they both graduated from New Mexico State University and soon thereafter were married.

They have two sons who work in the family business and are being groomed one day to take the reins of the company and continue the rich tradition of Seco Spice that was started by their parents.

Over the years, Ed and Julie Ogaz have given much back to the Las Cruces, NM and Hatch Valley community, continuing to be committed to innovation in farming techniques, technology and developing new products that are destined for your kitchen table.

Four Generations and Counting

Since the turn of the 19th century when the Ogaz family came to the Hatch Valley, chile farming has become a mainstay and a tradition for our family.

Today, the Ogaz children, grandchildren and great grandchildren continue the over a century's-old tradition, and have gone on to expand the family business from traditional farming to spice and now to frozen foods.

Spices and more...

Today, Seco Spice is one of the largest New Mexico Wholesalers of organic and non-organic chiles and spices to many of the finest brands and retailers in the country.

We started out leasing one dehydration plant in Garfield, NM. In January of 1998, we purchased a larger facility in Artesia NM. This additional drying capacity allowed us to expand our operations across Southern NM. Our Artesia plant dehydrates a variety of products, including: jalapeno peppers, onion, carrots and garlic, with red chile and rosemary being our primary products. We then acquired our 2nd plant in Berino, NM and have made this our company headquarters.
